Being the sin of Sloth, King outwardly displays a lazy demeanor, often floating on a pillow either on his stomach or back - in fact when he first appears and stabs Ban, he's laying sideways on his spear - but he's a deeply caring and emotional person. During Helbram's flashbacks, it's revealed that King doesn't trust humans as far as he can throw them, and his distrust is proven right according to Helbram, who watched his friends be killed by humans for their wings. King's distrust of Meliodas in recent chapters seems to stem from this, since he states he doesn't like not knowing which side Meliodas is really on, once his status as being from the demon realm is revealed. King's time with Diane in the past is seen as a betrayal by his people, who appointed him Fairy King in order to protect the Fairy King's Forest. Instead, his subsequent memory loss leaves his sister Elaine in charge of protecting the Fountain of Youth, and leads to her demise at the hands of a demon. Elaine is the one person that King respects, enough to put aside his squabbling with Ban when he confuses him for her killer, taking up his spear against Guila when he sees Elizabeth and Hawk pull it from where he stabbed it in the ground. Being told to run away and let them handle it caused him to do the exact opposite and chose to fight. He seems to take the defensive approach first, choosing to gauge how powerful his enemy is before attacking, this coming in the form of evading their attacks for as long as he can manage. It shows his wary nature, as previously stated with his distrust of humans and things that he doesn't know. While King takes to defence first, his attacks are quite powerful, stemming from his position as Fairy King and his connection with the forest. When the Forest was being attacked while he, Ban and Jericho were there, King took up arms despite his people claiming Ban to be their king since he was the one that had been helping it to rejuvenate from the demon's attack. Defending them and the forest itself from the two Commandments that attacked, he claimed to be a selfish king, willing to put his life on the line even when they refused him. This led to the other faeries fighting by his side and being reinstated as Fairy King. While King can be selfish, he often puts aside his own needs for the sake of others. Knowing that Diane - who he finds himself in love with well before they're part of the Seven Deadly Sins - is in love with Meliodas, he watches her pursue him without a protest. When Elaine asks him to protect Ban, he puts aside his hate and does as asked, and when it appears that Elizabeth is going to ask him to fight alongside them before she tries to pull his spear out of the ground, he naturally assumes so. Whether this is with women only is up for debate, but King does his best to protect those he calls comrades, even refusing to attack Helbram when his best friend is brought back from the dead a second time, when he's required to kill him a third. King just wishes to protect everybody and everything that he cares for, which is where he gets his incredible willpower from. Though he's a Sin, King is also a softie and empathetic. His relationship with Ban, while a little strained, is also weird in the fact that they act as foils for each other, and King is often found cleaning up Ban's messes, such as the time he (Ban) stole all the plushies in a village. King somehow managed to match every toy in the kingdom to their respective owners while Ban was asleep, because of the impressions and memories left on them. In fact, fighting for others is when King is at his most powerful, as noted in his introductory arc by Elaine as she watches him fight Guila in the City of the Dead. This is also what leads him to being able to (finally) kill Helbram, after some egging on by Ban; he couldn't stand to watch him suffer anymore.
